My mother told me tales of her.
She would say to us
“LISTEN WELL! wherever you come across a split tree its wound deep as Drogbó cave, holding a hellish fire in its belly, you know she has traveled here.”
We knew to tip-toe through the forest at night, after all they were our gardens. We made ourselves small and quiet for fear we might catch the eye of another being made of flesh and blood. Though unlike ours her heart,
she kept in her trees.
